The Kane County community is reeling after a violent early morning incident on Saturday that left multiple people injured and resulted in the death of 44-year-old Jenry Guadalupe Custodio Casimiro of Carpentersville.
Authorities confirmed that Casimiro was fatally shot by law enforcement officers following a shooting inside a restaurant located in a northwest suburban shopping center. The case remains under active investigation as officials continue to review the events that led to the deadly confrontation.
According to the Kane County Coroner’s Office, Casimiro was pronounced dead after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. An autopsy conducted Monday confirmed his cause of death as injuries consistent with multiple gunshot wounds.
The incident began shortly after midnight near Kings Road and Illinois Route 25, where investigators say Casimiro allegedly opened fire inside a restaurant, striking two individuals. Panic quickly spread through the establishment as patrons and staff attempted to flee and emergency calls were placed to authorities.
Responding officers, including members of the Illinois State Police, arrived at the scene and reported seeing an active shooting situation unfolding inside the restaurant. Officers engaged the suspect, firing their weapons and striking Casimiro during the confrontation.
Despite emergency medical response efforts at the scene, Casimiro was later pronounced dead.
The two victims injured in the shooting were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. One victim was reported to be in critical condition, while the other was listed as stable. Their identities have not yet been released.
Investigators believe the shooting was not random, stating that preliminary findings point to a domestic-related dispute involving the individuals involved. Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The incident prompted a large law enforcement response, with multiple agencies securing the area around La Ilusion Restaurant & Bar while investigators processed the scene. Detectives spent several hours collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage to reconstruct the sequence of events.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing and will include a full review of the officer-involved shooting in accordance with standard procedures.
As the community continues to process the tragedy, residents and loved ones are remembering Jenry Guadalupe Custodio Casimiro beyond the circumstances of the incident, as families affected by the violence begin to cope with the aftermath.
The case remains under investigation.
